Amélie

Amélie, an introverted girl from Paris, decides to change her life by making other persons happy. The film is full of her wonderfully original and often humurous ideas of how to achieve that. While doing so, she falls in love with a young man who collects Photomaton-images. At this point, it is her that needs the help of true friends, because she is too shy to take her own initiative. Another plus of the film is the wonderful feel-good soundtrack.

Big Eden

Henry Hart is a successful New York artist who returns to the small town of Big Eden, Montana to look after his grandfather who raised him. Also returning is Henry's best childhood friend, Dean, with whom he had been in love for many years. Add a painfully shy Pike Dexter to it, the owner of the general store and you get a small miracle in film history. Pike, who never suspected being gay before, falls in love with Henry. When widow Thayer, who is to provide Henry and his grandpa with their daily meals, turns out to be a less-than-good cook, Pike secretly exchanges her meals with his own delicious creations. Soon, the people of Big Eden find out about it and conspire to make two of their own happy.

Broken Chain, The (1993, TV)

In 1755 the six tribes of the Iroquis are joining the fight of the British against the French. Sir William Johnson recognises the great skill of the warrior (and accidentally his brother-in-law) Theyendangea and decides to send him to a british school. The young indian is fascinated by the world as presented to him by his teacher. He even changes his name to Joseph Brant. When he returns, he firmly believes in the power and good will of the British Empire. His opinions violently clash with those of his closest friend Lohaheo who sees the Iroquis' way of life threatened by the white colonists. Years pass and while Joseph continues to actively support the british military, Lohaheo tries to preserve the peace among the six tribes. Too late, Joseph notices that his friend is right. - It notices that this was only a TV production, although a few of the actors are brilliant (Eric Schweig and Pierce Brosnan, of course). Many details do not seem accurate to me, but in general, this is the true story of Joseph Brant who lead his people to Canada in order to rescue them.
