Gathering, The (2002)

This film is, erm...nice. No more no less. I do like the idea behind it, but the whole acting etc. isn't that great. See it when you're bored, that might help :P It is about an american girl that loses part of her memory in a car accident in England. She's taken in by a nice married couple and starts to look after the children. But some people in the small village seem to stare at her and follow her around. Besides, she has premonitions of death when she sees certain persons. Coincidentally, she sees the photographs of an altar from the first century that was discovered nearby recently. She recognises the people shown on them...

Green Butchers, The

For quite some time I refused to watch this film as the storyline sounded simply disgusting to me. I am happy I changed my mind. It certainly is very black and very comical. There's also a hint of tragedy in the film and you can't help asking yourself some questions after watching it. Please, go and watch this movie even though it sounds weird (and a bit boring) at first: Svend is working in a butcher's. All his life people have made fun of him and called him 'Svend Swet'. His only friend is his colleague Bjarne. Their chef enjoys telling them how inadequate they are. When they're fed up with it they start their own business. Unfortunately, the first day Svend accidentally locks the electrician in the cold-storage room. When he discovers this, he panics and so the next day his customers get to buy "Killer Wickies" - a huge success. Suddenly Svend is treated friendly and with respect. He craves the attention and persons he doesn't like 'mysteriously' vanish for good during the next days. Things are getting out of hand when Bjarne's brother shows up...

Harry Potter

Actually more than one film, it follows the story of the novels by J. K. Rowling. Harry is a boy who lives with his aunt and uncle who don't love him and in consequence treat him badly. On his 11th birthday he is told that he is a wizard and will attend the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Soon, he also discovers that his parents were murdered by the greatest dark wizard of the age, Voldemort. Harry is famous in his new world, because when Voldemort had tried to kill him, too, something stopped him. With barely any powers and not even his human body left, Voldemort vanished. Now that Harry starts his magical education, he is confronted by attempts of the dark wizard to return to his former self. Eventually, in the fourth year, he succeeds. Harry and his two best friends set out to avoid a catastrophe.

Hidalgo

After a true story, this tells how the former dispatch rider Hopkins gets to participate in the Ocean of Fire, a 3,000 mile long race through the Arabian desert. Once billed as the greatest rider in the Wild West, Hopkins drowned his sorrow in alcohol after he had to witness the massacre at Wounded Knee. This makes it difficult for him to focus on the task at hand, but when he becomes entangled in political intrigue and people dare to insult his famous horse Hidalgo... You can imagine the rest. The film in general is very nice and even has a message, but in my view the best about it are it's wonderful colours.
