Sherlock Holmes

Referring to the series starring Jeremy Brett only. It's the TV adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novels. Holmes is Great Britain's first consulting detective. He solves his cases using deduction and often invents ingenious disguises in order to get informations. Idleness, though, exhausts him to the point where he takes refuge in drugs. However, this is not his only weakness. His sharp mind doesn't allow 'softer emotions' and he is absolutely misogynistic. Thus, the only person he calls a friend is his biographer, Dr Watson, who also assists him in his cases. On the other side, Holmes isn't overly interested in money or even just getting credit for his own work. Often, he leaves the glory to others such as Inspector Lestrade of Scotland Yard. If he can righten a wrong without reporting the culprit, he often does so as well. This is a heavy contrast to his generally sarcastic attitude. After 23 years, Holmes is tired of London and moves into a house in Sussex enjoying nature.

Sky Captain

This was my absolute favourite film in 2004! Attention though: It starts a bit weird. Several scientists disappear and the world's biggest cities get attacked by giant flying robots. The reporter Polly Perkins teams up with her former boyfriend Joe 'Sky Captain' Sullivan (a pilot as the name indicates) to catch the villain. There are very funny dialogues between these two protagonists, because they cannot stand each others presence. Their relationship is in no way typical for a Hollywood film. Finally, a hint to a mysterious countdown is discovered, but to what nobody knows. Time's running up. I won't tell more, but go and feast your eyes on the unusual images!

Sleeper Cell

No film, but a TV mini-series. The first season was released in 2005, the second will follow in december 2006.
Extremist muslims are building a terrorist cell in Los Angeles. Together, they prepare for Youmud Din (Judgement Day). Darwyn, a FBI undercover agent, tries to find out what is being planned and prevent it from happening. Every day it becomes harder for him to play his role as he has not only to witness but also to take part in the cell's cruel activities. Being a practising muslim as well, he cannot understand why some of his fellow believers choose aggression as their path to God. - The series was produced to make people aware of the fact that not muslims in general are a threat, but only extremists.
